Two Atlanta United players received call-ups by their national teams for upcoming World Cup qualifying games.
Goalkeeper Brad Guzan was tabbed by manager Bruce Arena for Friday’s game against Panama in Orlando and an Oct. 10 game at Trinidad and Tobago. Guzan has 12 starts for Atlanta United with seven shutouts.
The U.S. is in fourth place in CONCACAF with the two games remaining. The top three teams in the region will automatically advance to the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The fourth-place team will advance to a playoff. The U.S. trails third-place Panama by one point.
Striker Josef Martinez was called up by Venezuela, which has already been mathematically eliminated in CONMEBOL qualification. Martinez has scored 18 goals for Atlanta United.
