Atlanta United centerback Leandro Gonzalez Pirez sustained a right hip contusion in the first half of Saturday's 4-0 loss at Houston.

Manager Gerardo Martino said after the game that it was too early to know when Gonzalez Pirez will return.

The injury happened when Gonzalez Pirez threw himself in front of Alberth Elis to stop a breakaway in the first half. It appeared that Elis’ knee hit Gonzalez Pirez in the hip. He grabbed the hip and limped for a few seconds before sitting down, signaling the trainers to come out. He re-entered the game but, after kicking away a ball during a scramble in front of goal, stayed on the turf again and was replaced by Michael Parkhurst.

Gonzalez Pirez appeared in 32 games last season for Atlanta United. The team will host D.C. United on March 11.
