Manuel Castro, Atlanta United's newest signing, is very similar to Atlanta United's first Designated player, Hector Villalba, manager Frank de Boer said on Monday.

“Both are players you have to watch,” de Boer said.

Castro was purchased last week from Estudiantes in Argentina. He has yet to join Atlanta United. De Boer said he's not sure when the player will join. Castro can play as a left or right winger or as a striker. Villalba was sold to a club in Paraguay almost three weeks ago.

From watching Castro on film, de Boer said he is fast like Villalba, but has a better engine. De Boer said Castro can make runs 20 times, whereas Villalba would need to “fill up his tanks” after five.

“It’s something we didn’t have,” de Boer said.

“Like Tito, he’s a player that people love to watch because he puts so much energy in and is such a threat,” de Boer said.
