FLOWERY BRANCH -- Tom Brady is a Leo. Who knew?
He turned 44 on Aug. 3 and can still sling the football. In the Buccaneers’ season-opening win over the Cowboys, Brady attempted 50 passes in the 31-29 win on Sept. 9.
How do you slow an old man, one who thinks he can play until he’s 50?
“Not many people have slowed him down,” Falcons coach Arthur Smith said. “But it’s a football game. It’s a challenge every week.”
Smith did not want to venture too far down the how-to-beat-Tom Brady street as his team prepares to play the Bucs at 4:05 p.m. Sunday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla.
“There’s a graveyard of guys who’ve popped off with arrogance about Tom Brady,” Smith said. “Nobody’s done it better than him. We’ve got all the respect in the world. There’s a reason he’s won seven Super Bowls.”
Brady completed 32 passes for 379 yards and four touchdowns. He also tossed two interceptions and finished with a passer rating of 97.
The Falcons gave up 264 yards passing and three touchdown receptions to Eagles second-year quarterback Jalen Hurts.
“We can just control ourselves,” Falcons right cornerback Fabian Moreau said. “We know that we have to play our game. We have a great game plan. We just have to execute it. You know, obviously Tom is a great quarterback, probably one of the best ever. We know we have a challenge.”
