Here’s a look at three key matchups when the Jets (1-3) play the Falcons (1-3) at 9:30 a.m. ET Sunday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London:
Jets DT Quinnen Williams vs. Falcons LG Jalen Mayfield: Williams, who listed at 6-foot-3 and 303 pounds, was the third overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft. He has 16 tackles, three tackles for losses, six quarterback hits and three sacks. The Falcons have committed 33 penalties, and Mayfield leads the team with five. While his play has improved since a shaky NFL debut in the opener, he must cut down on the penalties, especially the false starts.
Jets WR Corey Davis vs. Falcons CB A.J. Terrell: Davis, who was drafted fifth overall by the Titans in 2017, signed a three-year, $37.5 million deal with the Jets. He’s their leading receiver, with 16 catches for 257 yards and three touchdowns. Terrell doesn’t travel from side to side with a receiver, but will see Davis when he aligns on his side of the field. “He has a big catch radius,” Falcons defensive coordinator Dean Pees said. “He’s a big guy. He’s fearless. ... He’s not afraid to go over the middle and catch the ball. Good route runner. Got deceptive speed because he’s long.”
Jets QB Zach Wilson vs. Falcons FS Jaylinn Hawkins: Wilson has completed 79 of 139 passes for 925 yards (56.8%) and has thrown four touchdown passes. With Erik Harris (calf) not practicing for most of the week, Hawkins is set to make his third NFL start. Hawkins has been splitting time at strong safety with Duron Harmon. He’s played 70 defensive snaps (26%) and has four tackles on the season. He’ll have to stay back deep if Wilson starts scrambling around and looking down the field.
