FLOWERY BRANCH -- First-round pick Drake London and quarterback Desmond Ridder were on the practice field Friday for the opening of the Falcons’ rookie minicamp.

Here are five quick observations from the open media portion of practice: (Have to double-check, but I don’t recall pre-COVID-19 rookie minicamp practice being closed to the media.)

1. London’s right ankle: London, the wide receiver from USC, suffered a fractured right ankle seven games into last season. He appeared fine Friday jogging and running half-speed routes. We didn’t see him on the field when they lined up 11-on-11. Coach Arthur Smith said he’s going to ease the rookies into things because most have been on the pre-draft circuit since January.

2. First steps for Andersen: Second-round pick Troy Andersen, the linebacker from Montana State, appeared comfortable working on his footwork early in practice.

3. Ridder on point: Ridder, a third-round pick from Cincinnati, looked good getting things organized. Would have liked more time to watch.

4. Full roster: Smith came over to chat about the roster and the tryout players.

5. Huntley ran hard: Running back Caleb Huntley, one of the Falcons’ young vets/practice-squad players, looked good toting the rock.
