Former Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson has agreed to a seven-year deal to join the Chicago Cubs as a free agent.
Here’s some of the reaction on social media to the popular player leaving the Braves. One Chicago fan is so happy he’s already singing about it.

Dansby Swanson, the hometown kid who won a ring with the Braves. He’ll always have an important place in franchise history.

Good for him getting a long-term deal. Chicago will love him.

Thank you for everything, Dansby Swanson. Your incredibly clutch gene and gold glove will be missed 🥺pic.twitter.com/FE6NS9c75I

The Atlanta Braves offering Dansby Swanson six years (at $16-17M AAV) while these other shortstops are getting 13-year deals into their forties is yet another reminder that the Braves aren't complete idiots while everyone is.

Couple of things. Dansby Swanson wasn’t worth $25M unless it was a contract of 4 years or less. Dansby Swanson wasn’t worth more than 6 years. The Cubs over payed and now Dansby Swanson gets to play pointless baseball for the next 7 years. AA has a plan. Everyone breathe.

Imagine telling someone last summer that Dansby Swanson would get more money in free agency than Freddie Freeman
— Garrett Spain (@BravesMILB) December 17, 2022
It’s possible to simultaneously really like Dansby Swanson, wish he was going to be a Brave for years to come, and recognize that Atlanta paying him the money over the years that the Cubs just agreed to would have been a bad deal for the Braves.

On May 1, Dansby Swanson was batting .216 with 30 strikeouts and 16 hits. Today he signed a 7 year, $177 million contract.
