The group says they'll gather near the Art Rooney statue at the south end of the stadium. An alternative location is on the sidewalk on the river side near the Mr. Rogers statue.

"Please be respectful. We are honoring the dogs, not looking for confrontation with Steelers fans or police officers who are there to control crowds," the Facebook group says.

A woman who plans on attending the vigil told Channel 11 News that there are people all over the country participating in person or at home.

As of 5 p.m. Monday, the Facebook group had more than 500 members -- with another 4,500 invitees.

Gordon Shell announced on Facebook that he plans to attend the event.

Vick returned to football in 2009 after serving 18 months in prison for helping run an interstate dogfighting ring.

Since his release from prison, Vick has advocated against organized animal fighting. Earlier this month, he said he can't take back what he did, but he's making up for it the best he can.
