Ossoff thanks Georgia Democrats, but says ‘we’ve got more work to do’

Oct 28, 2022

To the loudest cheers of the night so far, U.S. Sen Jon Ossoff thanked the crowd of Democrats for voting in historic numbers in 2021 to help elect him and U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock.

“Thank you to all of you what you did to win those massive underdog victories -- you did that Georgia,” he said. “Georgia you proved the power of our democracy, you proved the power of the vote.”

He ticked off a list of Democratic priorities that were possible because Democrats had taken control of the Senate: approving Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson and approving infrastructure legislation to expand broadband access in underserved and rural areas.

Still, he said, there’s more work for Democrats to do, citing Georgia’s high rate of maternal mortality and expanding Medicaid in the state.

“So we’ve come a long way, but we have a long way to go,” he said.
