A fight in the parking lot at the Jennifer Ross Soccer Complex on Sallie Mood Drive turned deadly Tuesday night.

According to Savannah Police, at around 8:15 p.m. as young children played football on the sports fields, a Rajah Young, 26, was shot and wounded. He was transported to Memorial University Medical Center where he later died.

Savannah Police detained a suspect, Mario Wallace, 26, at the scene. Wallace was charged with murder and booked into the Chatham County jail.

The "preliminary indication," said SPD spokesperson Bianca Johnson, is that the two men knew each other and that the shooting was not random. Both the victim and shooter's identities, Johnson said, will be released at a later time.

"Right now, our detectives are currently interviewing witnesses to try to gather more information," Johnson said. "So, right now we do believe that we have identified all parties involved in this, but we're asking anyone who has any additional information, and might have seen something to contact police."
