Hurricane Matthew intensified Thursday into a Category 4 storm and has already killed nearly 300 people and forced millions to flee from their homes.

In preparation, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal has called for a mandatory evacuation of six coastal counties and for voluntary evacuations in seven more.
