Atlanta police are investigating the shootings of two different women Tuesday to determine if they might be linked to a street gang.

Denise Bell, 59, was shot in the buttocks after nearly three dozen bullets were fired into her northwest Atlanta home on Adele Avenue as she slept around 4 a.m. Tuesday. She was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.

The other shooting happened about an hour later at an apartment complex on Landrum Drive in which gunfire sprayed several units, police said. Carlisa Kilpatrick, 25, was hit twice in the leg while sleeping inside her bedroom.

“Due to the timing and similarities of this shooting, it could be related to the shooting on Adele Avenue,” said Officer Kim Jones of Atlanta police.

Both shootings may be related to gunfire hours earlier outside a nightclub on Donald Hollowell Parkway. Bullets damaged several cars outside the Club Crucial around 2 a.m., police said.

The shooting on Adele Avenue off of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive provided police with a lead in the case. Some residents of the home told investigators they had returned from Club Crucial, Jones said.

The witnesses were wearing clothing “consistent with the gang Famerica,” Jones said. Detectives collected 34 shell casings from outside the home, she said.
