Rail service at MARTA’s Lenox station returned to normal Monday afternoon a few hours after a customer fell onto the tracks.

MARTA spokeswoman Alisa Jackson said a 47-year-old woman waiting on the northbound platform suffered a medical emergency and fell onto the tracks shortly before noon. A train approached, but did not hit the woman because she landed in a crawl space under the platform.

The woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in good condition, Jackson said early Monday afternoon. Her condition was believed to be unchanged as of mid-afternoon, she added.

A bus bridge was set up to shuttle passengers between the Lenox station and the Lindbergh and Chamblee stations.

MARTA spokesman Lyle Harris said the rail service resumed within an hour after the incident.

“We closed the station temporarily, and obviously de-energized the track, for the safety of our customers and rescue personnel who were responding to the incident. Within about an hour, we had reopened the station to single-tracking,” Harris said.

Service was fully restored at the station around 3:30 p.m., Harris said.
