A 92-year-old woman died early Saturday after firefighters pulled her from a burning bedroom in a DeKalb County home Friday night.

Firefighters were called shortly after 6 p.m. Friday to the home in the 4100 block of Northstrand Drive, off Snapfinger Road, DeKalb fire Capt. Eric Jackson said.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to one room of the home. Jackson said the cause of the fire is still being investigated, but it appeared to be accidental. The woman was alone at the time, he said.

Her name has not been released.

Mom, boyfriend arrested after 1-year-old’s death

A woman and her boyfriend have been arrested in connection with the death of a 1-year-old girl, the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

Brandy Ann Boyd, 25, and Austin Levi Payne, 24, were arrested late Thursday and charged with first-degree cruelty to children and aggravated assault, according to Sgt. Jonathan Rogers, who is investigating the death.

Boyd’s daughter was not breathing Tuesday when she was taken to Cartersville Medical Center, police said. The child, whose name was not released, died in the emergency room.

A GBI medical examiner determined that the child showed signs of physical injuries and abuse, Rogers said. Further details were not released.

Rogers said the Department of Family and Children Services never investigated any issues with the child before the death. DFCS did look into a matter involving another of Boyd’s children, a 5-year-old boy who is no longer in her custody. No action was taken by DFCS, Rogers said, and the mother later lost custody for reasons he said he didn’t yet know.
