Clayton County police are crediting a witness with helping them find a suspect in a hit-and-run that left two people critically injured.
Officers responded to the scene at the intersection of Ga. 138 and Crown Way on Sept. 20 and found the pair lying on the pavement and unable to move, the department said Monday in a Facebook post. A male victim had extensive injuries to his left leg. The details of the woman’s injuries were not released.
While officers were on the scene, a witness approached them and said she saw the blue SUV that hit the victims. She provided the tag number for the Chevrolet HHR, which was registered to Ikeria Symone Bibbs, 24, of Jonesboro, according to police.
Officers went to Bibbs' apartment, where they found the damaged motorcycle as well as the suspect.
“While talking to the officer, (Bibbs) had a loud smell of alcoholic beverage coming from her person, slurred speech admitted to consuming alcohol while at Club Sugar Bush,” police said in the Facebook post. “Bibbs also admitted to the officer that she was drunk.”
She was arrested on charges of DUI, hit-and-run and serious injury by vehicle, online jail records show. She was booked into the Clayton County Jail and released Friday.
Both victims are expected to survive their injuries, Clayton police said.
