The wife of Peachtree City police Chief William McCollom was released from the hospital Monday, 11 days after being shot by her husband.
Margaret McCollom had been at Atlanta Medical Center since early New Year's Day, when she was shot in the back as she slept in the couple's Peachtree City home. Margaret McCollom was flown to the hospital in critical condition, but her condition was later upgraded.
The chief called 911 around 4 a.m. on Jan. 1 to report that he had accidentally shot his wife, according to the GBI. He was placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation into the shooting is underway.
When interviewed from her hospital bed, Margaret McCollom told investigators she was asleep at the time she was shot, but believed it was accidental.
No charges have been filed in the case.
