The porn problem is coming from LinkNYC kiosks, more specifically built-in web browsing. The New York Times reports the stations resulted in people, particularly homeless people, lingering around listening to music and even watching movies for hours.

LinkNYC was supported by New York Mayor Bill de Blasio as part of the city's plan to provide affordable internet access to every New Yorker by 2025.

"In 2016, internet access is not a luxury. It's not something optional. It's something everybody needs. And if we're going to have fairness, we have to make sure that there is a quality of access to the internet," de Blasio said at a press conference.

LinkNYC issued a statement Wednesday, saying, "We will be removing web browsing on all Link tablets while we work with the City and community to explore potential solutions, like time limits."

But the kiosks will still provide free Wi-Fi, charging stations and maps for lost tourists.
