Ducks get ‘waddle lanes’ along popular waterway paths

It’s not just drivers that need to slow down and respect the road, according to Great Britain’s Canal & River Trust.

Pedestrians and cyclists need to pay attention and slow down when it comes to the region’s duck population. To prevent walkers, joggers and cyclists from disturbing the ducks, and to reduce the risk of accidents, “waddle lanes” have been painted alongside footpaths near canals and waterways in England and Wales.

While the ducks, of course, remain oblivious to the lanes specifically created for them, the hope is that the duck symbols catch the attention of the humans using the paths and raise their awareness of any nearby feathered friends.
