There will be plenty of dry hours to sit by the pool Wednesday, but it might be a good idea to have a contingency plan in place.
Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said more cloud cover and rising humidity could result in a stray shower in metro Atlanta on Wednesday afternoon. Rain chances are low at just 10%, and any showers that develop will not last long, she said.
“The rain that is moving in is on the light side,” she said. “No widespread heavy rain expected here today. In fact, many of you will stay dry.”
Most will notice the increase in cloud cover, however. Deon said North Georgia will get a little less sunshine Wednesday, but it will still be warm with a projected high of 82 degrees in Atlanta. After starting the day in the mid-60s, she expects temperatures will reach the 80s by lunchtime.
“We’ll have better rain chances as we head into Thursday, and it’s Thursday we could see a storm or two,” Deon said.
The forecast has changed somewhat since the start of the week, when Deon said it was looking like metro Atlanta would get more rain. There remains a 30% chance of showers and and isolated storms in the forecast Thursday, according to Channel 2.
“There is the opportunity that we could be dealing with a strong storm or two,” Deon said. “Today, that severe threat stays back to our west. For Thursday, we could certainly see an isolated strong storm, especially into parts of northwest Georgia.”
Rain chances will stay low through the end of the week, she said. Showers and storms are 20% likely both Friday and Saturday, according to the latest forecast.

Metro Atlanta interstates are moving smoothly to start the Wednesday morning drive, although some lingering overnight construction was creating a slow zone on the Southside, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
Crews wrapped up at the I-75 North ramp to Mount Zion Boulevard just before 6:30 a.m., according to the Traffic Center. Conditions should improve quickly.
