A change in the air is making for a cooler, more comfortable start across metro Atlanta on Wednesday morning.
Humidity has dropped on the other side of a cold front, and temperatures are in the 60s in town, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. Gone are the sticky, tropical conditions that have dominated Georgia’s weather for the past few days.
“If you have not been outside this morning, you are in for a treat,” Monahan said.
The best time to get outside for a walk or a jog is before 9 a.m., he said. The humidity should stay low through the afternoon, even though temperatures are expected to rise. Atlanta is headed for a high of 87 degrees Wednesday, which is right on target for this time of year.
“Lots of sunshine in the forecast,” Monahan said. “With this dry air, we won’t see much in the way of clouds.”
No rain is in the forecast Wednesday, and Monahan said that will be true of Thursday and Friday as well. Rain and storm chances will return for the weekend, when a tropical system developing in the Gulf of Mexico makes its way toward the coast.
The system is likely to become the season’s next named tropical depression, or even a tropical storm, Monahan said. It will also bring back the humidity.
“This will move tropical moisture toward the Gulf Coast over the weekend,” he said. “On that track, that means after the work week, by Saturday and then Father’s Day on Sunday, our rain chances are going to go up.”
Showers and storms are 40% likely Saturday and 60% likely Sunday, according to the latest forecast. Temperatures should remain in the upper 80s all week, peaking Friday with a projected high of 92 degrees.
With dry pavement, there are no weather issues to trouble the Wednesday morning drive. No major crashes or delays have been reported as of 6:30 a.m., according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
