Lots of sunshine is in the forecast Wednesday, but some showers and storms will be in the mix, too.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said there is a 40% chance of rain Wednesday afternoon. North Georgia will stay in that summertime pattern of dry mornings and afternoon storms, he said.

“Our rain impact into the afternoon is a 2 out of 3,” Monahan said. “Three would be a washout ― we’re not talking about that. But there are going to be some downpours, and more of them over the next few days.”

Most should stay dry and partly cloudy through lunchtime before rain chances increase, he said, and downpours could be heavy at times. In between the rain, Monahan said temperatures are headed back into the 90s Wednesday.

Atlanta’s projected high is 91 degrees. The city is warm to start the day with temperatures in the upper 70s.

Nineties are in the forecast through Saturday, and Sunday should fall just shy of the 90-degree mark, according to Channel 2. Monahan said the summertime storm pattern will continue through the weekend, with a 40-60% chance of rain each day.

Early next week, North Georgia’s weather could be driven by a tropical storm now making its way through the Caribbean. Monahan said Tropical Storm Fred is headed for Florida’s Gulf Coast, according to current storm track projections, and it could bring rain and tropical moisture to Georgia for the start of the work week.

Inside the Perimeter, there are no major delays on metro Atlanta interstates as the Wednesday morning drive gets underway, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. Traffic reporter Mark Arum said I-285 is moving at interstate speeds all around town at 6:30 a.m.

In Carroll County, the ramp from Ga. 113 to I-20 East is closed at times after a tractor-trailer overturned, the Traffic Center reported. It is a little slow into Douglasville, Arum said, but beyond that no alternate route is needed.
