After a string of rainy days, metro Atlanta is overdue for some nice weather.

North Georgia’s wet streak should come to an end on Sunday as drier air and sunshine move in, pushing temperatures back up to 90 degrees.

With just a 10% chance of showers forecast for the second half of the weekend, Sunday should be a great day to get outdoors. Metro Atlanta will start off relatively cool with morning temperatures of about 70 degrees. Things will start to heat up just before lunchtime, however.

“The forecast is calling for some drier air to move in overnight,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Jennifer Lopez said. “What we will not notice (Sunday) is a big chance of rain ... It will still be warm, but it’s going to be pretty sunny as we head throughout the day.”

Unfortunately, that much-needed reprieve from the rain will only last through Monday. By midweek, temperatures will drop slightly as the rain returns and Georgia gets back to its summer pattern of isolated afternoon storms. The wet weather is expected to stick around until at least Friday.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews are expected to take full advantage of the lull in the rain, which means drivers can expect overnight delays on Atlanta’s interstates.

Work continues this weekend at the I-285/Ga. 400 interchange. And on the Perimeter, drivers in Fulton and Clayton counties will likely see delays as crews resurface stretches of I-285.
