Metro Atlanta residents can expect the warming trend to continue as the weekend approaches, but the end of the weekend could be punctuated by severe weather.

According to Channel 2 Action News meteorologists, Thursday will see highs in the mid-50s following morning lows around the freezing mark. Temperatures will trend a little bit higher on Friday, starting out in the mid-30s and reaching the upper 50s.

Saturday’s forecast looks similar to Friday’s, albeit with the addition of partly cloudy skies. And Sunday should see the return of highs in the 60s, according to Channel 2 chief meteorologist Glenn Burns.

“That being said, many severe storm parameters are coming together for Sunday,” Burns said. “Models differ on timing, as usual, but all show a huge squall line moving in on Sunday.”

Burns said the main threats will be strong straight-line winds up to 60 mph and isolated tornadoes.

“We’ll have a tremendous amount of wind shear over us Sunday. It could be bad,” he said.
