Atlanta Police Lt. Charles Hampton, head of homicide, said Monday detectives believe the man wanted for a weekend killing in a West End market had targeted the victim but so far police don’t have a motive.

“It does not appear to be gang related,” Hampton said Monday. “I believe the victim was the intended target.”

Now Atlanta Police are asking for help in identifying a man who may be able to help solve a killing that happened in the West End over the weekend. Detectives found a surveillance video of the man in the store around the time of the killing.

Police found Martrell Gay, 25, shot in the face in West End Food Market at 812 Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard around 3 p.m. Saturday. Gay later died at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Hampton said Gay was unarmed.
