An University of Georgia employee was stabbed Wednesday — the latest in a rash of assaults and robberies that police are trying to solve.

UGA police learned of the stabbing of the man, who police have not publicly identified, when they pursued a speeding automobile to the Athens Regional Medical Center at 3:15: am Wednesday. When they questioned the driver at the hospital entrance they learned the passenger had been stabbed in the hand and they were seeking medical treatment, according to an email disseminated by the university about the attack.

The victim reported that the and the driver were walking in the area of Brooks Hall on Herty Drive when they were approached by three college-age men, one of whom pulled a knife and stabbed him in the left palm, the email said.

The three suspects then ran toward downtown Athens, the email said.

The victim was treated for the wound that was described as superficial. The UGA police are investigating. Anyone with any information is asked to call UGA police at 706-542-2200.

It was the latest attack to raise concern since a rash of armed robberies and assaults, in which a number of the victims were students or employees — including a professor — was first reported in the Athens-Banner Herald. The Athens-Clarke County police sought the public help this week in solving that series of crimes that occurred in March.

Municipal police are not certain all the robberies are connected but in some of the attacks between March 17-26 robbers pistol-whipped their victims, the newspaper said.
