Two council seats up for election in Royal Palm BeachTwo council seats up for election in Royal Palm Beach
ROYAL PALM BEACH — A political novice and a former councilman will be challenging current council members Martha Webster and Fred Pinto in the March 12 election.
David Swift, a councilman for 20 years, will face off against Martha Webster for Seat 2 on the town council while Justin Sallenbach, a 29-year-old teacher at Turning Points Academy goes up against Pinto for Seat 4.
Sallenbach said he decided to run because many residents believe the current council isn’t representing them.
“I want to bring a blue collar attitude to politics,” said Sallenbach.
In December, Swift said Webster is “difficult to work with” and that a change is needed on the council.
“My problem isn’t with the council,” said Swift, a village councilman for 20 years until he was forced to resign last year by state law to protect his retirement benefits after retiring from the South Florida Water Management District. “It’s with Martha specifically. You need to work with your council, even if you disagree with them.”
