Metro Atlanta is heading into a stretch of warm, dry days that will push temperatures higher than they have climbed in months.
Tuesday’s projected high is 67 degrees, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. Things will get even warmer Wednesday, when highs are expected to reach the 70s for the warmest day since November.
“We were cold last week, but unseasonably warm is the story this week,” Monahan said. “And it’s going to get even warmer, I think, for the weekend.”
Monahan expects nearly total sunshine Tuesday and Wednesday. More clouds will move in Thursday, he said, but it will still be a nice day with a very minimal chance of rain.
The rain chance really ramps up Friday, when showers are 70% likely, according to Channel 2. Friday should also be cooler with a projected high of 55 degrees.
For Tuesday, metro Atlanta is starting off chilly in the 30s and 40s but should warm up pretty quickly, Monahan said.
“You need to bundle it up, you need to layer it up this morning,” he said. “You will gradually take those layers off, though, as we go through today. Nothing but sunshine in our forecast.”
With the warmer and drier weather, Monahan expects pollen levels to rise. The pollen count was low Monday at 80 particles per cubic meter of air, according to Atlanta Allergy and Asthma, the organization that tracks the daily pollen count.
Monahan said the count was much higher by this point last year because of a warmer and wetter winter. This year’s pollen season is off to a slower start, he said.
“The pollen count has been lower so far this month because it has been cooler and it has been drier across North Georgia,” he said. “Usually, we get the highest pollen counts in late March into late April. With warm temperatures, I expect the pollen counts to go up.”

Weather conditions may be looking up, but there has been no improvement to two road closures impacting traffic through Midtown.
Authorities expect 17th Street to remain closed east of West Peachtree Street through Tuesday after a weekend water main break. The water main has been repaired, but crews are still working to make additional repairs, according to city officials.
And West Peachtree Street remains shut down between 11th and 14th streets as work continues to reinforce and remove an unstable crane at a 31-story office tower. The road could be closed all week.
Northside Drive, Piedmont Road, Peachtree Street or the Downtown Connector are all good alternates to get around the closures, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
