The summer heat will be turned on again Tuesday in North Georgia, but there is a slight chance of some relief.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said showers are 10% likely later this afternoon, which could help to tamp down some of the above-average temperatures. Typically, Atlanta is in the low 80s this time of year.

“We hit 91 yesterday, and we’re going up to 91 again today,” Deon said. “Plus some 80s around, but you have to go all the way up to the northeast Georgia mountains to find that relief from that intense heat.”

Don’t expect much in the way of rain, however. Deon said high pressure continues to dominate North Georgia’s weather, keeping the region mostly rain-free. The weather system is going to continue sliding to the east Tuesday, she said, allowing more of a southerly flow of air.

“That’s going to bring a little more in the way of moisture, so its going to feel a little more humid, and we cant rule out maybe a stray shower before the day is done,” she said. “Most of you though, will stay dry.”

High pressure will keep North Georgia hot and dry again Tuesday, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon.

Tuesday is starting warm with temperatures in the mid-70s. With the hot conditions, North Georgia is dealing with air quality issues. A Code Orange air quality alert is in effect for metro Atlanta again Tuesday.

“Under Code Orange conditions, the outdoor air quality is likely to be unhealthy for some people,” the National Weather Service said in an alert. “Children, people who are sensitive to ozone, and people with heart or lung disease should limit prolonged outdoor exertion during the late afternoon or early evening when ozone concentrations are highest.”

Deon said temperatures will start to fall first Tuesday evening in the northeast mountains, ending the day in the 70s. The rest of the region “will be sweating it out,” she said, until temperatures fall back into the upper 60s overnight.

More 90-degree heat is in store for Wednesday afternoon, according to Channel 2. In fact, highs in the 90s are in the forecast through Friday before temperatures drop into the 80s for Memorial Day weekend.

While there are no major delays on metro Atlanta interstates Tuesday morning, some residual overnight construction projects are slowing down some commuters.

A right lane is blocked on I-285 West near I-675, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. Traffic on the inner loop is slow between Flat Shoals Road and the I-675 interchange, the Traffic Center reported.

Another construction project is causing delays in Henry County. The project on I-75 North at I-675 is creating gridlock conditions before 6:30 a.m., according to the Traffic Center reported.
