A tractor-trailer fire on I-285 appeared to be contained early Friday morning before the truck reignited, sending flames into the air just south of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

It took fire crews, including two engines and a truck, more than three hours to contain the blaze, which shut down the westbound lanes of the interstate. The lanes were closed just before 4 a.m. and did not reopen until about 7:40 a.m., according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

No injuries were reported, Clayton Clayton fire battalion Chief Laura Richardson told AJC.com.

The big rig was carrying primarily food, including chocolate, Richardson said. Authorities brought in a small crane to aid in firefighting efforts.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

During the shutdown, the morning commute was impacted on two interstates. The I-285 inner loop was backed up through Clayton and Fulton counties, and I-75 was jammed back to I-675, the Traffic Center reported.
