TRAFFIC ALERT: Peachtree Street in Midtown reopening after gas leak

Most of a major roadway in Midtown has reopened after a gas leak in the area prompted authorities to shut it down Wednesday.
Peachtree Street was closed between 14th and 16th streets, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. All but one southbound lane reopened shortly before 4 p.m., Channel 2 Action News reported.
Traffic in the area was detoured to Spring and West Peachtree streets while crews worked to repair the leak, which was reported just before 11 a.m.

The leak happened at the intersection of 15th and Peachtree streets, Atlanta fire spokesman Sgt. Cortez Stafford told Channel 2.
The leak was caused by a third-party contractor boring in the area of a gas main line, Atlanta Gas Light confirmed.
