A two-vehicle crash involving a Floyd County sheriff’s deputy shut down I-75 South in Cobb County for 40 minutes during the Monday morning commute, officials said.
The Georgia State Patrol responded to the crash near North Marietta Parkway about 7:30 a.m.
The deputy’s patrol vehicle hit a 2004 Lexus from behind, causing that vehicle to overturn and “roll multiple times,” the GSP report said.
The deputy, identified as Nicholas Shaun Deaton, and the driver of the Lexus, Lynnette Minnick of Dallas, were not seriously injured. Minnick was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for examination.
Deaton told authorities he was driving 75 mph and looked down to change his radio. When he looked up, the Lexus was stopped in his lane, according to the report.
Minnick said “she remembered entering the interstate but could provide little other details. Her recollection of the crash was minimal,” the report said.
Two passengers in the patrol car were also taken to Kennestone.
All southbound lanes were shut down at times.
