Heads up, Gwinnett County motorists.
Night time will be the wrong time to travel on I-85 for the next two weeks.
Up to three northbound lanes of I-85 will be shut down nightly for the next two weeks for asphalt repairs, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced Monday.
“There is no good time to work on the interstate in Gwinnett County, but the best of the worst times is overnight weekdays so that is our plan,” said Brent Cook, a district engineer for GDOT.
The work zone begins at Jimmy Carter Boulevard and continues northward for about 16 miles to Ga. 20.
“Maintenance crews will work overnights tonight through Friday morning this week and next week,” Cook said.
He said crews will be working from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting, to remove the damaged asphalt and repave the lanes.
“Delays are expected as work occurs,” Cook warned, adding that crews will complete the repairs “as quickly as possible.”
