With dry weather forecast throughout the weekend, metro Atlanta motorists can expect road crews to be out in full force with interstate construction projects.

Here’s what you need to know to avoid the lane closures and detours:

Delays expected with I-75 express lane construction

In Cobb County, the I-75 southbound entrance ramp from Barrett Parkway will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Saturday for Express Lanes construction. Traffic headed to I-75 southbound will be directed to I-575 southbound, then onto I-75.

On I-575, one lane in each direction between Bells Ferry Road and Ga. 92 will be closed all weekend.

One lane of I-75 in each direction between Chastain and Wade Green roads will be closed throughout the weekend.

South of there, two lanes of I-75 in each direction between Delk and Windy Hill roads will be shut down from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Saturday.

Sign structure work will close one southbound lane of I-75 southbound just before the Canton Road Connector from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Saturday and one southbound lane of I-75 just before I-285 from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday.

On the other side of Atlanta, work on the South Metro Express Lanes will close two southbound lanes of I-75 between Ga. 155 and Ga. 138 from 9 p.m. Friday through 7 a.m. Saturday.

On I-20, two westbound lanes between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Hamilton E. Holmes Drive and two eastbound lanes between I-285 and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive will be closed throughout the weekend.

West of there, traffic pacing occasionally will close all lanes of I-20 in both directions at Fulton Industrial Boulevard from 10 a.m. until noon on Sunday for utility work.

East of Atlanta, one eastbound lane of I-20 will be closed all weekend between Almon Road and U.S. 278.

On the west side Perimeter, two northbound lanes of I-285 between Camp Creek and Langford parkways and two southbound lanes between South Cobb Drive and I-85 will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

On the east side, up to three lanes of I-285 in each direction between Chamblee Tucker Road and I-20 will be closed from 9 p.m. Saturday through 5 a.m. Monday.

Traffic pacing occasionally will shut down all lanes of I-285 in both directions at Flat Shoals Road from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday for utility work, while other utility work occasionally will shut down all lanes of I-285 in both directions at Bolton Road from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday.

One lane of Ga. 400 in each direction will be closed nightly between Lenox and Holcomb Bridge roads for striping.

Finally, a sunny weekend

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton is forecasting nothing but sunshine this weekend, although temperatures will be a little cooler than normal.

The far northern suburbs are included in a freeze watch issued for Saturday morning along and north of a line from Rome to Canton to Cleveland.

Afternoon highs in Atlanta will be in the upper 50s Saturday and Sunday, with morning lows each day around 37 degrees, Minton said.

Atlanta’s normal high for mid-November is 65, and the normal low is 45.

Basketball tops slim slate of weekend events

The Hawks play the Jazz Sunday night at Philips Arena.

The Atlanta Botanical Garden’s annual “Garden Lights, Holiday Nights” display opens Saturday and runs through Jan. 9.
