A major northwest Atlanta street was blocked early Wednesday morning after a sedan crashed into a pole and brought down power lines.

Officers responded to the single-car crash in the 1000 block of Marietta Boulevard about 6:50 a.m., Atlanta police spokesman Officer Anthony Grant told AJC.com in an emailed statement. While the driver was not on the scene, police found the wrecked car and several downed electrical wires.

The incident left hundreds in the dark and closed lanes on West Marietta and Herndon streets until the wires could be safely removed. Power has been restored to most of those impacted by the outage, and traffic in the area is moving again. However, heavy delays remain, the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center reported. Customers still in the dark should have service by 4:30 p.m., according to the Georgia Power outage map.

“At this time no injuries have been reported and there are no additional vehicles involved in the accident,” Grant said in the statement.
