Cobb County commuters had to deal with more emergency road closures due to gas leaks.

A construction crew struck and ruptured a gas main on Cobb Parkway at Roswell Street around 2:30 p.m. Monday, Marietta police said.

Crews shut down one southbound lane of Cobb Parkway and two eastbound lanes of Roswell Street for repairs. The roads were reopened by 8 p.m.

Earlier Monday, a major Cobb thoroughfare was reopened following the second gas leak in as many work days.

A construction crew punctured a gas line on Whitlock Avenue in front of Marietta High School about 10:30 a.m., forcing authorities to shut down the road in both directions for more than an hour. The leak was repaired just before noon.

Last Friday, a construction crew punctured a gas line “in almost the exact same spot,” Marietta police spokesman Michael Gardner said.

Whitlock Avenue was closed for several hours following Friday’s gas leak, jamming other roads in the area.
