A backseat passenger faces a murder charge after police say he shot a woman in an SUV on I-20 in DeKalb County.

The suspected shooter and the woman were in a silver Jeep Patriot driven by the victim’s boyfriend, DeKalb police spokeswoman Shiera Campbell told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The woman, a friend of the shooter, was in the front passenger seat when she was shot.

Police are not sure where the woman sustained the fatal injuries, Campbell said. The driver and the suspect stayed on the scene and are still being interviewed by police.

Police are not releasing the suspect and victim’s names.

Campbell said it is too early in the investigation to determine if the shooting was intentional.

The shooting blocked traffic for a time on I-20 West and delays were heavy before Turner Hill Road, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

The roads have since reopened.
