One person died Tuesday in a crash that sent an SUV down an embankment in Cobb County.

About 5:25 a.m., officials received a call about the accident on the south side of Cobb Parkway, just before Lake Acworth Drive, fire Lt. Dan Dupree said.

Tracy Roberts, 54, of Acworth, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, Roberts was driving a blue 2002 GMC Envoy south on Cobb Parkway when he veered right, left the roadway and struck the guardrail on the right shoulder. It’s not clear why Roberts veered right, Cobb police Sgt. Wayne Delk said in a news release.

“The vehicle then rolled over the guardrail and rolled down an embankment before coming to rest on its wheels at the bottom of the embankment,” he said.

The crash caused delays as far back as Dallas-Acworth Highway, according to the Cobb County Department of Transportation.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Cobb police at 770-499-3987.
