A 53-year-old motorcyclist was killed Tuesday morning in a crash that blocked a major DeKalb County road for nearly three hours.

Thomas Wright Jr. of Atlanta died just before 6 a.m. after colliding with the side of an SUV that turned in front of his motorcycle on Moreland Avenue, DeKalb police spokeswoman Michaela Vincent said.

No charges have been filed against the driver, but the fatal wreck remains under investigation.

Police shut down Moreland Avenue at McDonough Boulevard during the height of the morning commute as they investigated the crash.

The road was reopened just after 9:10 a.m., according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
