A person was flown to a local hospital after a two-vehicle wreck shut down I-75 South in Cherokee County for nearly two hours Tuesday.

“One of the vehicles slid under the tractor-trailer,” the Georgia State Patrol said in a statement.

The accident happened about 7:40 a.m., and lanes reopened about 9:30 a.m., according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

A 2014 Hyundai Elantra was traveling south on I-75 in the right lane when it hit the tractor-trailer parked on the right shoulder of the interstate at mile marker 276, according to GSP.

"The driver was extricated from the Elantra and airlifted to (Wellstar) Kennestone Hospital,” GSP said.

The driver of the Elantra was identified as Denise Hopson, 60, of Cartersville.

The truck driver was identified as Colman Prendergast, 58, of Lauderhill, Fla.

The truck driver’s condition has not been released, and it is unclear how many other people may have been injured in the crash.
