There will be the usual array of interstate construction projects shutting down interstate lanes around town this weekend, but traffic could also be heavy on Thornton Road in Lithia Springs on Saturday, and that’s a good thing.

That's because fans and friends of WSB's beloved traffic guru Capt. Herb Emory will be joining together to remember Emory and collect toys and money for one of the Captain's favorite causes – the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.

The event, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Fred's BBQ House at 541 Thornton Road, will feature race cars, tanks used in "The Walking Dead" and live music.

Here’s what you need to know about the weekend’s interstate closures:

West side is the hot spot

Bridge joint replacement will shut down two eastbound lanes of I-20 for about a mile near Six Flags Parkway, beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and continuing through 9 p.m. Saturday. Similar work will close one westbound lane from I-285 to Six Flags Parkway from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday.

More bridge work will shut down two westbound lanes of I-20 between McDaniel and Langhorn streets all weekend.

Also on the west side, work on sign structures will close two lanes of I-285 in each direction between Washington Road and I-85 throughout the weekend.

Similar sign work will block two northbound lanes and one southbound lane of I-285 between Glenwood Road and Covington Highway from 9 p.m. Friday until 9 p.m. Saturday.

Bridge repairs in Newton County will close the entrance and exit ramps on I-20 westbound at Ga. 12 all weekend. Click here for traffic updates throughout the weekend.
