Rain should come and go Thursday morning without any threat of winter weather in metro Atlanta, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Temperatures are in the mid-40s to begin the day as showers make their way into North Georgia from the west. Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said it’s all light stuff before sunrise, but steadier rain is pushing across the Alabama border and driving southeast.
“That’s going to push some of this wetter weather right into metro Atlanta for the heart of the busy morning commute,” he said.
The city should see high impacts to travel for the morning drive, but Monahan said the 60% rain chances will drop off dramatically around noon. There is little chance for sunshine Thursday as he expects a cloudy sky all day.
“Some widespread showers this morning turn into scattered to isolated through the afternoon,” Monahan said. “Still a little rain possible mid- to late day today.”
At least temperatures are mild. Atlanta will remain above-average Thursday with a projected high of 55 degrees, according to Channel 2.
With some cooler air to the north, Monahan said there is a possibility of some wintry mix in the mountains early Thursday morning. It should not cause too many traffic problems, he said.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if some wet snowflakes mixed in way up in elevation, maybe even a little bit of patchy freezing rain or drizzle, but no advisories to tell you about in the mountains,” he said.
The sunshine is expected to return Friday after another round of rain. There is another 60% chance of showers to end the week, and Monahan said they will be concentrated on the Southside.

The sun should come out late Friday afternoon, he said.
“By Saturday, we’re looking at about seven hours of sunshine and a nice start to the weekend,” Monahan said. “But the next couple of days are going to be wet.”

The heaviest showers are on the Northside at 6 a.m. Thursday. Despite the wet pavement, there are no major delays on I-575 or I-75 to kick off the morning commute, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
Conditions could deteriorate as the steadier rain arrives in the city around 7 a.m. and more commuters hit the roads, traffic reporter Mark Arum said.
“It hasn’t been that bad yet this morning,” Arum said. “If you venture out, folks, please watch your speed.”
