Thursday is off to a dry start in metro Atlanta, but afternoon showers are expected to move in after lunch.
While the rain shouldn’t be very widespread, those heading out to school or work may want to pack an umbrella just in case, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.
Currently, metro Atlanta is just dealing with the heat. The temperature in the city is already in the mid-70s ahead of a high of 91 degrees, according to Channel 2.
“Short sleeves and shorts,” Monahan said. “It’s going to be a hot early August afternoon.”

Wet weather will be added to the mix around 1 p.m., when isolated showers are expected to make their way east from Alabama, according to the latest forecast. They should stick around for much of the afternoon before clearing out this evening.
“There are gonna be a few showers and storms on the way home from school later on.” Monahan said.
Atlanta’s warm weather is expected to linger through the weekend, with afternoon highs in the low 90s for the next three days. The weekend is also looking a little drier as the chance of rain drops to 20% Friday and 10% Saturday.
