Three men have been arrested by Statesboro police in connection with a fatal shooting at an apartment complex near the Georgia Southern University campus early Friday morning.
One man, who was not a student, according to WTOC-TV in Savannah, died in a double shooting. He was not identified pending notification of family. The other, Ian Lamar Rumph, 24, who WTOC said is a student, survived and was treated at a local hospital.
Police said they arrested Steven Williams, 21, of Augusta, who was charged with murder and aggravated assault. They also arrested Joseph Miles, 18, of Statesboro, who was charged with obstruction and making false statements, and Malik Rashad Freeman, 19, of Statesboro, who was also charged with obstruction and making false statements. Authorities did not say what was the cause of the fight.
The incident occurred at the Campus Crossing apartments just after midnight, police said. WTOC said the complex is not university housing but many students live there.
Police said that during the investigation of the shootings other people were arrested on drug charges at the apartment complex.
