8 things you need to know about the weather this morning

1. The winter storm has moved onThe system dumped more than a half-foot of snow across parts of north Georgia Wednesday and overnight, while metro Atlanta interstates were wet but mostly ice free during the early stages of Thursday's morning commute. Snow accumulations in extreme north Georgia included 7.5 inches in Blairsville, 7 inches in Ellijay and 6.5 inches in Rome

2. A winter storm warning remains in effect until 10 a.m. for areas of the state north of a line from Cedartown to Canton to Cleveland. The remaining metro counties are now under a winter weather advisory until 10 a.m.
3. Side streets are still dicey, particularly in the northern metro suburbs. "Please proceed with caution as you leave the subdivisions and make your way to the interstates,” said Mark Arum in the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

4. Road temperatures are expected to go back above freezing around 9 a.m. Air temperatures will rise above that mark at around the same time — about 8 a.m. in the metro area or about 10 a.m. in the far northern suburbs. Follow coverage of the weather here.

5. Many kids are still out of school: Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas and Fulton counties, to name a few, have canceled classes for Thursday. For an updated list of closings, check here.

6. Far fewer power outages reported than last week. At 5:30 a.m., Georgia Power reported only about 2,000 customers in the dark. Another 3,100 electrical membership cooperative customers were without power in north and northeast Georgia. Check power outages in your area.

7. Delta has canceled more than than 600 flights as of Thursday morning, the majority of them at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, and an airport official warns travelers to check their flight status with their airline before heading to the airport because many flights have been canceled or delayed.

8. It's going to warm up: The high Thursday is expected to be about 44, with only a 10 percent chance of rain. Similar conditions are expected for Friday and Saturday. You can check the forecast here.
