Q: What happened to the “Barbie Bandits,” who robbed a metro area bank with the help from a friend, who was a teller? It seems like they were juveniles at the time. Did they do some kind of community service to remove the crime from their record?

—William McKee Jr., Flowery Branch

A: Heather Lyn Johnston and Ashley Nicole Miller became known as the "Barbie Bandits" after their robbery of a Bank of America branch at a Kroger in Acworth in February 2007.

They were arrested two days after taking nearly $11,000 with the help of teller Benny Allen III.

Johnston received probation after pleading guilty to robbery and drug use charges.

Miller was sentenced to two years in jail and eight years of probation after being convicted of theft and drug distribution. She served her time at Arrendale State Prison and was released in January 2010.

Johnston and Miller, who were both 19 at the time of the robbery, were shown wearing sunglasses and giggling on surveillance video as they demanded the money.

They went on a shopping spree before they were arrested.

Michael Chastang, who was considered the mastermind of the robbery, was sentenced to 10 years in prison and Allen received five years.
