Two people, one of them a teenager, were stabbed Wednesday during a predawn scuffle at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex, police said.

The incident happened about 4 a.m. at the Ashley Cascade Apartment Homes in the 1300 block of Kimberly Way.

The victims, 17-year-old Dmarius Slade and 25-year-old Cortez Poole, told investigators that “a guy that lives in the complex was banging on doors looking for a female,” Atlanta police Sgt. Greg Lyon told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in an email.

“The victims’ aunt stepped outside to confront the guy and a scuffle took place between the two of them. Both Slade and Poole intervened and that’s when they were assaulted by the suspect. They were not sure if they were cut with a razor or a box cutter.”

He said Slade suffered a stab wound to the back, and Poole had a laceration to his side. Both were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

Police later arrested Eric Oliver, 39, and charged him with two counts of aggravated assault.
