A DeKalb County middle school teacher and coach was charged with misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor after a mother discovered inappropriate texts from him on her son’s cell phone.

The texts by Quinton Wright, a former math teacher and coach at the The Champion School, encouraged the 14-year-old to have sex with a girl on school property, the mother told WSB-TV’s Tom Regan. The mother asked to remain anonymous.

The DeKalb County solicitor charged Wright with four counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and set bond at $4,000 per count.

“I was in a state of disbelief when I read all these messages,” the student’s mother said.

A DeKalb County Schools public safety report says a parent called the Stone Mountain police May 15 to report their 14-year-old son had received inappropriate texts from Wright.

“Basically he’s allowing the students to have sex in a storage room of his classroom,” the mother told Regan.

“He told my son you can have it from 7:30 to like 8:30,” the mother said reading some of the messages. “’Did you tell the girl what’s going to happen? That she cannot tell anybody?’”

The mother said the teacher also sent her son a calendar showing teachers’ schedules and a text saying he did not have condoms.

Quinn Hudson, a DeKalb school spokesman, said in an email that Wright has been sent a certified letter notifying him of his immediate termination.

“The teacher is accused of inappropriate conduct and communications of a sexual nature with students,” according to Hudson.

Hudson said the district is continuing its investigation and notified the county district attorney’s office.
