One carjacking suspect was shot by an officer, another was arrested and a third escaped capture after Union City police chased a stolen vehicle early Sunday.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Union City police received a 911 call regarding a carjacking at the Garden Inn on Shannon Parkway in which several men robbed a pizza delivery driver of his vehicle and other personal items at gunpoint, Union City police spokeswoman Gloria Hodgson said.

About four hours later, officers spotted the stolen vehicle, occupied by three men, in a business area along Ga. 138, according to Hodgson.

“After a brief pursuit wherein the vehicle rammed several Union City police vehicles, the driver of the stolen vehicle crashed in the parking lot of the Magnuson Hotel on Shannon Parkway,” she said. “After the crash, the occupants fled the vehicle.”

Hodgson said one of the suspects aimed a firearm at one of the officers, and the officer fired his service weapon, striking the suspect once. That suspect was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, Hodgson said.

The second suspect was apprehended nearby, but the third remains at large, she said.

Police have not released the names of the suspects or the officer involved.
