College Park police said they have identified the suspect involved in a dispute over candy that led to the death of a former professional baseball player from Mississippi.
The shooter’s identity is not being released by authorities at this time, College Park police spokesman Jeff Hightower said Friday, but detectives have been in contact with him through a relative and have asked that he meet with police to give his side of the incident.
Earlier Friday, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Ryan Bolden, 23, of Madison, Miss. He was shot and killed around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 4000 block of Lakemont Drive in College Park.
The shooting stemmed from an altercation between juveniles over some candy, witnesses told police. Adults became involved in the altercation and things escalated from there, resulting in Bolden being shot.
According to WLBT-TV in Jackson, Miss., Bolden, who graduated from Madison Central High School in 2010, was selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the first round of the 2010 MLB draft, and played four seasons of professional baseball with the Angels organization, in the Pioneer and Arizona minor leagues.
He left the Angels organization due to back problems, the station reported.
