A judge has denied bond to the man accused in the beating death of a Forsyth County high school graduate at a Statesboro bar.

Grant James Spencer, a former bouncer at Rude Rudy’s in Statesboro, is accused of beating 18-year-old Michael Gatto at the bar. Police who responded to the bar just after midnight Aug. 28 found Gatto non-responsive with head injuries. He later died at a hospital.

Spencer, initially charged with aggravated assault, currently remains in the Bulloch County Jail on charges of felony murder and aggravated battery.

He was in court on Oct. 15 for a bond hearing, and at that time, Ogeechee Judicial Circuit Chief Judge William Woodrum Jr. did not rule whether or not to give him bond, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Friday, Woodrum denied Spencer’s bond, a Bulloch County court clerk told Channel 2.
